HBAA

16^th January 2015: The HBAA is a major association for the events and hospitality industry. With a room full of events professionals Chairman Chris Parnham wanted to do something different for their annual winter gala dinner. The theme they decided on was based on the cult film Coyote Ugly. Performances had to help bring the event alive and encapsulate the energy and ethos of the movie without straying into something too-sexualised for a corporate audience.

As guests arrived they were served drinks on a large square bar in the middle of the room (the events space at Chelsea Football club). Our hand-picked dancers performed a coordinated flashmob on top the bar to a medley of rock and roll anthems.

Later as a teaser in between courses two jugglers showed off high level skills on podiums amongst the audience. When dinner was over we performed a one off 15 minute show. Because the room is long and thin there were major technical challenges to ensure that everyone could see the action and feel immersed in the performances in a way that felt true to the source material. We created two shows to run simultaneously from the centre to the two ends of the room, with ten performers on eight different stages including aerial hoops, manipulation props, contortion, handbalancing, cyr wheel and hula hoops – all live streamed and projected onto big screens.

The incredibly technical nature of this show was one of our biggest challenges to date and involved a lot of logistics and rehearsal with the venue and performers. The feedback from representatives from several hundred venues and event organisers was fantastic.
